A computer network used by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign was hacked as part of a broad cyber attack on Democratic political organisations, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

“An analytics data programme maintained by the DNC, and used by our campaign and a number of other entities, was accessed as part of the DNC hack”, said Clinton campaign spokesman Nick Merrill.
The revelation follows what appears to be a similar attack last month against the Democratic National Committee and another on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Clinton’s campaign handlers have alleged that the attack is an attempt by Russian Federation to influence the result of the USA elections in November, The New York Times reported.
The DCCC is working with CrowdStrike to investigate the breach, according to Reuters.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign was caught up in the cyberattacks on Democrats, Reuters reported Friday afternoon.
The DCCC is a group under the Democratic Party that is responsible for raising funds for Democratic candidates running for seats in both chambers of U.S. Congress. Moscow can try to meddle in the US election campaign to help Republican nominee Donald Trump.
The Justice Department’s national security division, which was already investigating the DNC intrusion, is handling the probe because of the believed similarities, CNN reported citing the officials as saying.
The Brooklyn-based Clinton campaign declined to comment on allegations it had suffered a security lapse.
After news of the attack had become public, a hacker going by the name of Guccifer 2.0 tried to take responsibility for the hacks, but the media was quick to brand him as a clueless frontman for two of Russia’s government agencies suspected of the two hacks.
The scandal also led to the resignation of the DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing”, Trump said this week.
She also said that the DCCC was working to increase its network security and cooperating with the USA federal law enforcement with respect to their ongoing investigation.
Democrats immediately accused him of colluding with Russia’s strongman President Vladimir Putin – and said Trump’s words were tantamount to asking a foreign entity to conduct espionage.

US Secretary of State John Kerry raised the DNC hack with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Laos earlier this week.
