Democrats appeared more eager to promote and defend their candidate than Republicans were, according to a review of transcripts and prepared remarks by 36 current elected officials who spoke in Philadelphia this week.
“It’s not so much that I’m on the ticket, it’s because of the stark choice that’s posed to Americans in this election”, she said.
It’s hard to know if the higher TV ratings will have any impact on the polls, or if more people simply wanted to turn out for the speaker who has been running the abnormal campaign. Donald Trump’s current position is that the program is harmful because it brings in cheap workers who undercut Americans who need jobs.
Clad in white, the color of the women’s suffrage movement, she noted her special role: that this convention marked “the first time that a major party has nominated a woman for president”. “I’m taking the gloves off”, he said.
By the end of Republican and Democratic conventions it seemed like the nation’s most powerful political parties were speaking about two different countries.
“Remember this”, he said, “Trump is going to be no more Mr. Nice Guy”.
The convention provided hours of glowing tributes to Mrs Clinton, including deeply personal testimonials from her husband, daughter Chelsea and Mr Obama.
Retired Marine Corps four-star General John Allen, who endorsed Clinton Thursday and slammed Trump for his promise to compel the USA military to engage in war crimes, also came under Trump’s angry gaze.
But the trip also hints at a problem within Clinton’s base, as well: White, working class voters, especially those hurt by globalization and manufacturing plants are drawn to Trump’s message of economic security and cracking down on immigration. “I’m starting to agree with you”.
Monday night’s DNC speeches were seen by 26 million viewers across seven channels, versus 23 million for night one of the RNC.
The effort to portray Trump as unfit for the presidency carried over, too.
“She doesn’t know how to win, she’s not a victor”, he said in an excerpt of the interview set to air Sunday.
Sanders offered a full-throated endorsement of Clinton and urged supporters not to shout or protest.
“I’ve been saying, let’s just beat her on November 8”. A Pew Research Center poll from earlier this month found that 90% of Sanders supporters favor Clinton over Trump and are likely to pick the former Secretary of State. “As far as I’m concerned, he’s not a friend of mine anymore”.
In addition, the calls for Democratic unity in the wake of a fiercely contested primary may be less effective with young voters, who are less likely to be registered with a political party than are their parents.

The Democratic presidential nominee said during a kickoff rally in Philadelphia Friday that the tour through critical Pennsylvania and OH will stop at “places that make things”. Their towns and cities are hurting, their jobs are disappearing, they will never have the life their parents had and they don’t think their kids can either.
