Coroner: Woman, 90, attacked by alligator near nursing home
An alligator is likely responsible for the death of a 90-year-old woman found dead in a SC pond, the Charleston County coroner said Friday.

Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said that investigators believe Ms Walker slipped or fell into the pond.
Officials from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced they conducted a necropsy on the alligator and confirmed the creature was involved in Walker’s death, according the Post and Courier.
Walker had multiple sharp and blunt force injuries consistent with an attack from an alligator, Wooten said. Her death has been ruled accidental.
DNR says Walker’s death is the first alligator related fatality in South Carolina’s history, according to their records.
Walker was reported missing from the Brookdale Senior Living Center in Charleston Wednesday morning.
There are signs around the retention pond where Walker’s body was found that warn of alligators in the water.
Walker’s body was found in the pond near the facility Wednesday afternoon.

It’s still not clear how Walker left the facility by herself.
