Boyd retired the Astros in order in the second. The 25-year-old struggled in his lone encounter with Houston on August 16, 2015, serving up a pair of solo homers to Colby Rasmus (1-for-31 in his last eight games) and five runs total in as many innings of a no-decision. Castellanos beat out a throw at first base that scored Cabrera.

The Tigers brought lefty Daniel Norris back to Detroit following his second rehab start (three runs, six innings) but Ausmus declined to reveal exactly when he gets plugged back into the rotation next week. After erupting for a season-high 14 runs and 16 hits in the opener, the Tigers look to extend their winning streak to five games on Saturday when they vie for a series victory against the visiting Houston Astros.Justin Upton belted a three-run homer in Friday’s 14-6 rout and has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games, but is 0-for-4 in a small sample size versus Saturday starter Mike Fiers. Eight total runs were charged to McHugh. He started off on the wrong foot, allowing a two-run home run to American League Most Valuable Player candidate Jose Altuve in the first inning, but settled to allow one run the rest of the way.

The Tigers scored again in the the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 10-3. Detroit leads 9-3. “He’s got to run first”. Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove a pitch to dead center field, but Marisnick made a great play and didn’t give up on the ball and tracked it down to make the catch. Alex Wilson relieved Boyd, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless innings, upping his scoreless innings streak to 8 2/3 innings.

Cameron Maybin’s two-run double put the Tigers ahead 4-2 in the second, and Cabrera followed with a run-scoring single. “We got the quick 2-0 lead, and then we’re down seven after the second”. “Looking at it from the opponent’s point of view the last thing you want to do and we’ve done it, is when you score runs, you don’t want to give up runs the next half-inning”.
