For Sanders supporters, Clinton’s historic nomination brings mixed emotions

Hillary Clinton sought to draw a sharp contrast between herself and Donald Trump as she ticked off one policy difference after another with her Republican opponent. Many on social media were quick to point out that surely Clinton knows this – and wore white in part to honor those who fought for the vote, the original cracks in that highest glass ceiling now shattered. After Trump’s speech, 57% of people reacted very positively.

“Americans don’t say: ‘I alone can fix it, ‘” Clinton said.

During a speech marked by boisterous applause she accepted the nomination “with humility, determination and boundless confidence in America’s promise” as the convention hall erupted in a jubilant outpouring. “Corruption and devastation follows her wherever she goes”, Trump tweeted.

One of the products she cited were Trump picture frames made in India.

Last night, Hillary Clinton became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major party.

“To all of your supporters here and around the country I want you to know I’ve heard you”, Clinton said of Sanders, who watched the address from a suite inside Wells Fargo Center.

Clinton said it would be her “primary mission” to create more opportunities and more good jobs with rising wages, and to confront stark choices in battling determined enemies and “threats and turbulence” around the world and at home.

Wall Street, corporations and the super-rich are going to start paying their fair share of taxes, she said.

Trump’s twitter even posted a new campaign ad in response to Clinton’s speech. Speakers, some of whom included military and police officers, made frequent mentions of religion and patriotism. Donald Trump was also all for the Iraq War.

‘On one hand she was saying there’s a need for a third term, an Obama third term.

Clinton and running mate Tim Kaine will seek to carry her momentum straight onto the campaign trail Friday, taking a three-day bus tour into Rust Belt communities in swing states Pennsylvania and Ohio. “Because when more than 90 per cent of the gains have gone to the top 1 per cent, that’s where the money is”, she said.

Nothing about the speech Clinton gave to commemorate making history as the first female nominee was memorable, other than the fact she was giving it. Instead, we can expect to see a fear campaign of a different kind from Ms. Clinton – fear not of immigrants or Muslims but of the consequences of handing control of the nation over to someone as mercurial and peevish as Mr. Trump.
