And now he is being rewarded for it.

McKenzie is entering his fifth year as Raiders general manager and the final year of his contract while coming off his finest offseason in Oakland.
Owner Mark Davis made the announcement Friday night at a team alumni dinner in Napa Valley, Calif., where about 100 former players and staff had gathered.
Davis said it was time to “reward” McKenzie for the job he had done in his first three years with the team.
The Oakland Raiders are young, talented, and on the verge of snapping a 13-year National Football League playoff drought.
He added those players to a core roster stocked with quarterback Derek Carr, who he nabbed in the second round in the 2014 draft, and a pair of top-five home run picks in defensive end Khalil Mack and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

On hand along with Raiders legends and Mark Davis took the opportunity to announce he had given a 4-year extension to General Manager Reggie McKenzie that would keep him as GM until 2020. McKenzie’s son Kahill now plays for the Volunteers and tweeted out his support. The team hasn’t had a winning record since 2002 when they went to the Super Bowl and lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He gave McKenzie a four-year contract extension.
