Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins begins holdout
Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins did not report to training camp Saturday and is beginning a holdout, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. “I just want to be treated for what I’m worth”.

Hopkins has two more years left on his rookie contract and is only due to make $1 million in base salary in 2016. “That’s fair to say, right?”
For each day Hopkins misses, he will be hit with a $40,000 fine. His roster bonus is for $445,000 – nearly half of his season’s salary – and that will only be paid if he is on the roster on Wednesday.

Now new Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler might be facing a setback in building his rapport with Hopkins, though the two worked together in the team’s offseason program. That’s a bargain for a player of Hopkins’ quality, but it’s what the Collective Bargaining Agreement dictates. The 24-year-old Clemson product finished third in NFL with 1,521 receiving yards while catching 11 touchdown passes and was the clear offensive star on a mediocre Houston offense that ranked 19th in the league in total yards per game.
