Stephen Colbert’s Colbert Report character ‘will never be seen again’
It’s no secret that Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been struggling in recent months. He conceded defeat readily, but “with a heavy heart”. This new Stephen Colbert clarified that he is not the guy that had a television show for a decade.

Stephen Colbert has continued his live shows tied to the Republican and Democratic conventions with DNC programs this week.
To avoid the wrath of those aforementioned corporate lawyers, Colbert introduced a completely original segment called “The Werd”, a bit with similarities to “The Word” that we are supposed to believe are purely coincidental. He introduced a new character named Stephen Colbert, who is the identical cousin of the character from Comedy Central.
Colbert said he found the claim “surprising, because I never considered that guy much of an intellectual”. Comedy Central declined to comment.
This is the kind of petty spat that makes politicians look honorable by comparison, especially when you consider both CBS and Viacom’s Comedy Central fall under the same ownership – Sumner Redstone’s National Amusements. Colbert asked his audience. So fans were delighted last week when he briefly brought the old character back.
Intellectual property law may prevent Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report from appearing on The Late Show, but it can not stop his identical twin cousin.
Colbert has struggled in the ratings since taking over for David Letterman past year, often trailing NBC’s Late Night Starring Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The new character insisted he was “totally different” from his cousin who hosted the Colbert Report for a decade.

In the clip, Colbert wanders the convention floor, lightly mocking things like the gluten-free zone and the concession stands-the latter because “you’ll never find Bernie Sanders here”.
