In a moment that will be cemented in history, Hillary Clinton became the first woman to be a major political party’s nominee for president.
Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton hugs President Barack Obama after joining him on stage during the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Meaning, would the GOP be supporting her with the Democrats wanting to hang her?
In her acceptance speech, Clinton reminded Americans that the motto of the United States is “e pluribus unum: out of many, we are one”, and she emphasized that “Stronger Together” is not just a slogan for her campaign but a guiding principle for the country. They hope her message will resonate with young voters.
“It is with humility, determination and boundless confidence in America’s promise that I accept your nomination for president”, Clinton said as thousands of party delegates, leaders and supporters at the Wells Fargo Center erupted in cheers and applause. There was a time when women were not allowed to vote, so it’s making history for sure. See Bill Clinton talk about their great love!
In this context, Clinton Foundation donations and private email servers compound the notion that she is inscrutable and untrustworthy.
She acknowledge the fact that although she’s been a public servant for a long time, some still don’t know what to make of her. Clinton said she is the kind of person who believes, “No one gets through life alone”. Again, Clinton’s standing rebounded in 1998 to as high 67 percent when she defended her husband in the wake of the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Rep. Dianne Hesselbein, D-Middleton, watched the speech with her 14-year-old daughter – then, on Friday morning, she called her own mother, who stayed up late to watch Clinton’s speech, and reflect on how things have changed since she graduated from the UW-Madison School of Business decades ago, when it was assumed the only use for her degree was to become a secretary. But her interest in politics and public service came much earlier.
In the end, the most admired women are the ones who challenge gender norms, even if it is unpopular and makes them unpopular.

“Hillary Clinton knows that this moment is not just about one woman’s achievement”. Some were offended by the implication that Muslims in America aren’t already American – already part of the “we” who “want you” – or objected to Muslims and terror being aligned so closely. We focused on Moving forward, and helping a Woman Win!!! “Every single issue that she touched on is important to me and she just really reflects what we as Americans care about”.
