After being stuck in development hell for years, the Paramount project finally gained traction when Dwayne Johnson signed on to star in the big screen adaptation.

Production to begin early next year.

It’s a given that Zac Efron loves not wearing shirts.

The hit ’90s TV show revolving around lifeguards, beach bods, and slow motion shots is coming to a theater near you! Clearly borrowing a lot of 21 and 22 Jump Street, Gordon’s comedy hopes to take advantage of playing with fans’ nostalgia while presenting a tongue-in-cheek parody of the corny property. He starred alongside Seth Rogen Neighbors, for which a sequel is in the works; he’s also appearing with Robert De Niro in another comedy, Dirty Grandpa; both are slated for 2016 releases. With the Fast & Furious movies and this summer’s San Andreas, Johnson is popular the world over. Johnson isn’t just an action star, but also a charismatic actor with surprisingly good comedic timing. No word on whether David Hasslehoff and Pamela Anderson will be invited back.

The plot will reportedly centre on Johnson’s character, a straight-laced lifeguard, who teams up with Efron’s renegade youngster.
