Obama, Trump and the ‘other’ factor

Somewhere in Pennsylvania, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton smiles a cautious smile. In the average of national polls compiled by RealClearPolitics, Trump was three points behind Hillary Clinton before Cleveland; now he’s one point ahead.

The incumbent president showered Hillary with praise, especially for her love of the country, public service, as well as her commitment to ensure that America remains united and strong as it has always been.

That, of course, is a bit like accusing someone of plagiarism because you were the first to utter, “Please pass the ketchup”.

In Philadelphia, Clinton and Kaine, who were joined by their spouses, painted Trump as an economic danger to the nation. If Trump’s elected president, he said, “how much in debt would we be to other countries? And if you give me the chance, that’s what I’ll do as President”, Ms Clinton said.

Officials say Obama stayed up until 3.30am this past Monday revising it. In October 2015, Clinton broke with the Obama administration and said she would declare a no-fly zone over parts of Syria.

“Thursday night, Hillary Clinton made what some call, the speech of her life saying (among other things), “‘America is once again at a moment of reckoning. Chelsea and Ivanka, 34, were once great friends, but the former first-daughter kept a blank face when discussing the matter. “And I tell ya, if any of you are looking for that party of Lincoln, we’ve got a home for you right here in the Democratic Party”, Kaine said.

She told the Convention: “We have to decide if we will all work together, so we can all thrive together”. “Not all of it but a lot of it is.’ I said, ‘I just really…it makes me feel good.'” Ultimately, he said, he conceded and decided not to launch into verbal assaults against the Democrats.

“Hillary has specific ideas to invest in new jobs, to help workers share in their company’s profits, to help put kids in preschool and put students through college without taking on a ton of debt”, Obama said.

The convention provided hours of glowing tributes to Clinton, including deeply personal testimonials from her husband, daughter Chelsea Clinton and Obama.

Clinton also offered an olive branch to those who backed her rival Bernie Sanders, telling them their voice had been heard, even as isolated voices of dissent echoed around the Philadelphia sports arena.
