Clinton stumps for working-class votes on potential Trump terrain

A crucial task for Clinton will be to reassure disillusioned supporters of independent Sen.

A night after accepting her party’s nomination to become the first woman to lead a major USA party, Clinton wound her way through western Pennsylvania telling voters there’s a strong contrast between her and Republican Donald Trump on the economy.

Republican New York billionaire Donald Trump and Democrat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have accepted their party’s nomination for President.

“Standing here as my mother’s daughter and my daughter’s mother, I’m so happy this day is here”, Clinton added.

“When any barrier falls in America, for anyone, it clears the way for everyone”. Clinton has said she opposes the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) because it does not do enough to protect American workers.

Clinton pledged that in her first 100 days she will “break through the gridlock in Washington”, and create jobs through funding infrastructure programs – a tall order since the Republicans may remain in control of the House and Senate, as they do now. Democrats are more unified around Clinton (87%) than Republicans are around Trump (79%). In addition, numerous polls show that about 65 percent of all voters feel the United States of America is headed in the wrong direction.

Trump’s campaign sees a narrow path to victory for the candidate who unexpectedly won the Republican primary, acknowledging at times that Rust Belt states like Pennsylvania and OH are critical to his success.

The Clinton campaign will highlight that message to Pennsylvania and OH voters, according to the campaign.

In the OH primary, Kasich decisively beat Trump in the female vote 48 percent to 32 percent, according to CNN exit polls. “She also is amassing the support of women and thus drowning out Trump’s marginal lead among men”.

Kaine voted to grant President Barack Obama fast-track authority to negotiate TPP and praised aspects of the deal, but said Friday morning that he was still concerned about an issue he raised initially with TPP: “The right of corporations to challenge unfair trade practices in private courts”, without giving labor unions the same rights. “And I think if you look at the history, that’s how we get things done”.

“The Republican Convention was like a twisted and negative tour”.

Kaine said his first words to her on stage after her acceptance speech were: “It is a great country and you just made it a lot greater”.

Trump’s speech was a 90-minute grocery list of everything that should cause us to be afraid to leave our homes. Whatever voters’ feelings about Clinton herself, the idea of a woman as president will do much to shape the election results.

While Missouri has voted for the losing candidate in the past two presidential elections, the Show Me State voted for the victor in the twelve previous contests. Obama won the Omaha congressional district in 2008. Among these three groups are 64 million eligible voters.

Dwayne Heisler, 52, a Sanders supporter from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, said he owns a collection agency and sees first-hand the anger and frustration of voters who blame their situation on global trade in the way Trump does, rather than as the result of globalization or advancing technology.

Republicans may have a big problem in Missouri because the state does not like Donald Trump, and the state’s GOP voters are not rallying around him.
