Woman: Granddaughter hid in closet from gunman

An 19-year-old gunman who killed three people and injured another person at a house party outside Seattle early Saturday had recently broken up with one of the victims, witnesses and neighbors said. He is expected to be in court on Monday.

A woman says her granddaughter hid in a closet to escape the gunman.

Officer Myron Travis, a spokesman for the Mukilteo Police Department, did not release the suspect’s name during a Saturday afternoon news briefing.

The wounded person was transported to Harborview Medical Centre, with the extent of their injuries unknown.

“She panicked and ran back in the house and hid in the closet until police arrived”, Gemmer said.

“There were many young people who saw and heard things that no one should ever experience”, Mayor Jennifer Gregerson said at pre-dawn media briefing at City Hall.

“My granddaughter called us about 20 minutes after midnight that she was hiding, that there had been a shooting and that two of her friends were shot and she was shot at”, Susan Gemmer told KOMO.

Officials say a shooting at a suburban Seattle home has left three people dead and another person hurt, and that a suspect is in custody.

Gemmer says the young man who lived at the home tried to lead her granddaughter to safety by running out a garage door, but as he exited the garage, the gunman shot at him.

Ivanov was taken into custody without incident and released to Mukilteo Police custody, according to Washington State Patrol.

Police have not yet identified a motive for the shooting, but friends of the victims tell Q13 that Ivanov and one of the victims had just ended a relationship.

Ivanov was later arrested on I-5 southbound near Chehalis after authorities put out an alert on the vehicle he was driving. “Such a loss is hard to comprehend, and we know the hearts of every Washingtonian go out to their grieving mothers and fathers”.
