Djokovic through to Rogers Cup final
Top-seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia is on to the final of the Rogers Cup after a 6-3, 6-2 win over France’s Gael Monfils on Saturday night. The Frenchman won the first point, and the second-on a Djokovic double fault. Today it wasn’t to be but I won in straight sets. He won the next four games to take control of the contest, clinching the opening set in 39 minutes.

But Monfils seemed to be lost for ideas, or perhaps was beginning to suffer from the fatigue of the last fortnight.
The 10th-seeded Monfils will face top-ranked Novak Djokovic on Saturday at York University’s Aviva Centre.
Yesterday, a confident Gael Monfils extended his recent run of form with a 7-6 2-6 6-4 minor upset of Belgian seventh seed David Goffin to book his spot in the quarter-finals.
“She gets a lot of balls back”, Keys said about Halep. “I’m lucky. I get some few pains, but hopefully not major”. “But you know, you learn even when you are exhausted like this”. “But you learn even when you are exhausted like this”. The main attraction of the men’s singles draw is done. The crowd went quiet then, and the only sound was of Monfils, who jumped and pumped his fist and said “Yes!”
“There is a big Serbian community in Canada, in Toronto area”, Djokovic said. I must be pleased with the way I hung in there. “Well, yeah, until 5-3 game (in the first set)”. Down love-40, he approached the net and had a great back-and-forth rally with Monfils, but it ended when Raonic misfired on a backhand volley.
Ideally Raonic and Djokovic would have occupied opposite ends of the draw, with each passing day leading to a Sunday final between the two biggest attractions. The first set turned out to be a true classic, not in terms of quality but with excitement and the result going ups and downs for both.
“After that, he started playing a little slower”.
Berdych showed his desire by winning five consecutive points from 1-3 down in the first-set decider, only to miss on three set points as he finally handed over the set to his opponent. “And then suddenly he was not missing anymore”. Yeah, suddenly being not even solid, but super solid. “He’s tough player, but I have beaten him before”.
Djokovic leads 9-2 beating Nishikori eight straight times, including in the last three Masters events. Should he win, it’ll be his fourth title in Canada.
The third seed lost to Novak Djokovic at the final in Miami. Djokovic and Monfils will be in the evening session, a match that starts at 8 pm ET. Another win on Sunday, and the question, as it so often as been, will be: Who can stop Djokovic? But, you know, I know what to do tactically. “And that’s great lesson for me for the next time I will play against him again”.

“I am very happy to be here in the final tomorrow but I really have to play my (best) tennis to beat either Novak or Monfils”.
