Jeremy Corbyn to lead 1500-strong rally in Queens Gardens, Hull
Labour’s Great Grimsby constituency has nominated Owen Smith to be the next party leader.

Ms Onn said she felt Mr Smith’s message and vision would resonate with her South Humber constituents.
Yesterday, Mr Justice Foskett ruled to uphold the Labour National Executive Committee’s (NEC) decision to allow current leader Jeremy Corbyn to appear on the party’s leadership ballot without securing nominations from at least 51 MPs or MEPs, as is required in party rules from challenging candidates.
Saving Labour, which has prompted controversy with its demand for “new, fresh, competent leadership”, told members to “act now” and encourage existing members of affiliated unions to obtain a vote.
The general secretary of rail union Aslef, Mick Whelan, welcomed the ruling, saying: “The judge saw this for what it was – a specious, and sneaky, bid to prevent the Labour Party coming to a democratic decision and electing the leader”.
LABOUR supporters are expected to turn out in force today when party leader Jeremy Corbyn visits the city.
But Mr Corbyn said there was “no alternative. we are Labour”, and the party should unite to fight the Tories.
“I write firstly therefore to seek an assurance that Jeremy does not intend to pull out of the remaining media debates that have been scheduled for the rest of the campaign”, she said in her letter.
“We’re a party that’s doing very well and going places”.
“We will continue with the leadership election as agreed by the NEC”.
“If the party were to split, and I really, really hope it does not split, I think the Labour party would disappear in the way the Liberals disappeared”. “I’m standing to unite the party and stop a split from occurring”.
The trigger for the challenge against Mr Corbyn – who became Labour leader a year ago – was the UK’s vote to leave the EU.
Mr Corbyn said he and the shadow chancellor engaged in a “Super Saturday” of grassroots campaigning across the country.
But Mr Corbyn says he was democratically elected “for a new kind of politics by 60% of Labour members and supporters” and that he will “not betray them” by resigning.

The result will be announced at a special conference in Liverpool on September 24.
