Facebook has provided more evidence that it can turn eyeballs into profit as the maker of the world’s most popular app and social website trounced Wall Street’s estimates, sending its shares to an all-time high. If videos have the impact they’re expected to have, then we could very well see Facebook(NASDAQ:FB) expand its influence even more in the social networking sphere. More than 4 million 360 photos have been shared on Facebook, Zuckerberg said.
In an hour’s time, Facebook founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg received a net profit of United States dollars 3.4 billion on Wednesday. “We’re particularly pleased with our progress in video as we move towards a world where video is at the heart of all our services”, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a news release.
For the three months ending in June, Facebook posted $6.44 billion in revenue, a 59 percent increase on Q2 2015, while profit rocketed by 189 percent to $2.06 billion year on year. “I actually don’t buy that Facebook are in the “second phase” of search development”, he continued. During the quarter, the social giant grew to 1.71 billion monthly active users – up 15% from a year ago – while mobile monthly active users grew 20% to 1.57 billion. The region “has been a consistently good performer for us over the last several quarters and we will continue to invest our global sales resources to drive opportunities there”, he said. “The number of mobile-only MAUs do not include Instagram users unless they would otherwise qualify as such users based on their other activities on Facebook”.
Twitter didn’t mention Facebook by name, but the message was clear.
When it comes to Google, there’s no doubt that Facebook users’ sharp surge in search could build the case for it to start offering up paid search ads to brands and publishers if interest is high enough, with Zuckerberg saying “there’s a reasonable amount of behavior in there which is looking for things that, over time, could be monetizable or commercial intent”. The most lucrative ads are app-install ads and news feed ads shown in Facebook’s mobile app, each of which will chip in more than $8 billion, according to Credit Suisse analysts.
