John Wick VR shooter announced for 2016

Starbreeze is working on a virtual reality, first-person shooter game based on Lionsgate property John Wick.

The partnership will also involve WEVR who are going to create a fully immersive VR experience that will introduce the game, while studio Grab will be spearheading the development.

Keanu Reeves’ movie “John Wick” will soon be turned into a first-person shooter virtual reality game. “In addition, Starbreeze will further integrate the John Wick storyline into its wildly popular Payday game, which has over nine million players worldwide, facilitating cross-promotion and integration of the two games”, Starbreeze stated in the official press announcement.

Demo versions of the John Wick VR game will be available to try later this year via SteamVR, before a full release early in the next year. After suffering the loss of his beloved wife, Baba Yaga (John Wick) is forced to unleash his fury when ruthless mobsters also brutally kill his dog.

With a sequel to the 2014 action thriller “John Wick” already in development, Lionsgate is looking to expand the franchise beyond theaters, and into virtual reality. The game is targeted for release next spring “on most existing VR headsets”. However, Keanu Reeves, who played the titular character in the film, has not yet been confirmed for voice or motion capture work.

“John Wick” was a box office success in 2014. Holmes, Lionsgate/Codeblack Films’ Addicted and Pantelion Films’ Instructions Not Included, the highest-grossing Spanish-language film ever released in the U.S.
