Applause threatened to bring the roof down at London’s Palace Theatre and, while the premiere night for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was a huge success, it was still only a first night of many for the play’s London run.
“(It) chimed perfectly with the material I had about the next generation and I could see it would work perfectly”, Rowling said.
The new play is set 19 years after the end of the last book and features a grown-up Potter living with his wife, Ginny Weasley and three children.
And following almost eight weeks of previews, audience members were expecting a magical experience after rave reviews from critics and they were not disappointed.
First copies: Sisters Jess and Natalie Aspden, of Burnie, bought the first two copies of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child from Not Just Books on Sunday.
However, people wanting to get their hands on the book may have to wait, with many bookstores reporting it’s already sold out.
The event coincides with Harry Potter’s 36th birthday, and local fans celebrated by dressing up in their Hogwarts robes and joining in the fun activities like house sorting and film screening at the midnight launch.
“I keep hinting to my boyfriend that I want to go to Harry Potter World for my birthday in October”.
Another fan, Eunseo Nam, said, “Harry Potter has been a really big part of my childhood and I have read all his books”.
Author JK Rowling says her prized creation Harry Potter has cast his final spell. We have a costume contest and we’re going to be using social media for people to like the pictures that are taken, so they’re going to be on our Facebook page and the victor will be taken, however many likes there are, which is the first time we’ve ever done anything like that.

I have very fond memories of waiting in line at midnight for my pre-ordered copy of the next book in the Harry Potter series.
