AJK Assembly to elect PM today

Raja Farooq Haider was on Sunday elected for the coveted office of Prime Minister by the Azad Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, Express News reported.

Khan secured 38 votes while a joint candidate of Muslim Conference and PTI, Ghulam Mohi ud din Dewan, and Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen of Pakistan Peoples’ Party bagged five votes each, the report said.

Journalist community voiced strong protest over being prevented by PML-N from entering AJK Legislative Assembly at oath-taking ceremony of ministers of newly-elected PML-N-led government.

The newly-elected AJK Assembly met under chairmanship of outgoing speaker Ghulam Sadiq Khan and elected speaker and deputy speaker after taking oath as member, except one member Khalid Ibrahim. The Prime Minister assured the newly elected Prime Minister of AJK for carrying out the development and reforms agenda of the Federal Government in Azad Kashmir which aims at revolution arising the lives of people socially, economically and politically.

He said Raja Farooq Haider’s election will strengthen Pakistan moral diplomatic and political support to just and legitimate struggle of the Kashmiris in Occupied Kashmir for their right to self-determination. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to attend the concluding session wherein he will be briefed on the outcome and he will also share his vision of foreign policy. The AJK Legislative Assembly will elect leader of the house Sunday (tomorrow) at 10am for which PML-N has already nominated Raja Farooq Haider.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also felicitated Raja Farooq Haider and hoped that he will come up to the expectations of his people.
