The University of Louisville Board of Trustees abruptly cancelled their meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning in which the trustees were expected to accept the resignation of President James Ramsey and discuss their process of searching for a new president.
Ramsey will receive a $690,000 settlement and has agreed not to sue the school, as Kate Howard of member station WFPL in Louisville reports.
The board was to decide Ramsey’s fate at a meeting in mid-September, but Chairman Pro Tem Ulysses “Junior” Bridgeman said the schedule was moved up to get a “jump start” on the transition, including issuing a request for bids for a search firm to find a new president.
The FBI is looking at whether top university officials misused federal money and the NCAA is investigating whether a university employee paid women to strip and have sex with basketball players, according to media reports.
Ramsey also drew public ire previous year after hosting a Halloween-themed luncheon at which he and other staff members dressed in stereotypical Hispanic garb.
The meeting lasted more than six hours as the board negotiated the terms of his resignation. He’s always going to talk about what’s best for the university.

In addition to the ongoing investigations, other matters are also unsettled at Louisville. As WFPL’s Howard reports, the state attorney general is seeking to block an order by the governor that dissolved and then reorganized the school’s board.
