Browns’ Josh Gordon ready to begin anew

“There’s only one of us that runs 4.3”, he joked, noting his blazing time in the 40-yard dash. They are a flawed team that has already lost its top pass rusher to injury, and has a lot of question marks on defense. Rather than getting chemistry down with multiple quarterbacks, Cleveland’s offensive players can now focus on excelling in their new offense without the extra drama and speculation of who will be their quarterback. They place a higher value on the quickness of these players whose straight line speed is often the attribute more talked about, and place a high value on a drill, and time, that reflects these skills.

Gordon said on Thursday that Griffin is the reason he committed to play at Baylor and that there’s no mistake that their lockers stand side-by-side in the Browns’ newly renovated locker room.

Since the Browns released Johnny Manziel in the offseason, the spotlight is on Griffin, who signed a two-year, $15 million contract in March after not playing a down last year for Washington.

“All those obstacles helped me to become a better player and strengthen my character to be able to withstand anything and stay poised in any situation so it’s hard to pick one thing”, he said.

“J.G., honestly, I can say he’s super excited”, Haden said before the first practice of training camp. “I think me standing here is a testament to that”, Gordon said.

“At the end of the day you come out here every day having to work to be the guy, to be the best”, Griffin said. “If you haven’t changed over a period of time, it’s definitely a bad thing”. Now you got to come out and have fun. Though Griffin will face to some degree competition from veteran journeymen like Josh McCown and Austin Davis, Cabot expects that Jackson will name Griffin his starting quarterback shortly before the Browns’ first preseason game on August 12th versus the Green Bay Packers. Gordon has been suspended two games in the 2013 season (when he still led the league in receiving yards), 11 games in 2014 (one by the team) and all 16 in 2015.

“That’s why we drafted him”, Jackson said. “We’re going to hit the ground running tomorrow at the start of practice and we’ll start evaluating that position, as well as all of the positions as we move forward”.

“Whoever earns that job is going to earn it out here on this field, but we’re going to go through a process out here pretty soon”. “But I think we’re not at that point yet”. I trust (Jackson’s) leadership on that. Robert Griffin III is now projected to be the Browns’ starting quarterback and he will need as many weapons as possible.

The 6-foot-2 Griffin had a rather unspectacular workout.

“I’m just happy that Hue and Sashi and the owner (Jimmy Haslam) have given me an opportunity to show people that’s not who I am”. McCown started eight games last season before breaking his collarbone.
