However, according to globeesporte, it appears as though the United boss wants a second stint together as he looks to strengthen his options at right-back.

The Belgian was awarded a lucrative new deal after an impressive breakthrough season under David Moyes, but subsequently found opportunities hard to come by under Louis van Gaal.

The versatile Italian full-back arrived at United last summer, and went on to make 28 appearances in the Premier League.

The Juventus star is set to become Jose Mourinho’s fourth summer signing and the most expensive player of all time in what is going to be a blockbuster transfer for Man United.

In addition, Adnan Januzaj, Tyler Blackett and Patrick McNair have been told they are surplus to requirements and will be allowed to leave if they find a new club.

“I think he will settle in very quickly”.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has extended his support for Bastian Schweinsteiger, insisting he does not see the player returning to his former club.

“When he is with the group, he is humble and friendly to everyone – integration is good”, Mourinho told MUTV.

However, Mourinho says the versatile midfielder, along with four other first-teamers had been left out of the party travelling to Gothenburg as a precaution.
