On Friday, the Khans appeared on MSNBC’s The Last Word, during which they said that Ghazala Khan did not speak becasue it would have been too painful for her-she is still grieving. “He doesn’t know what sacrifice means”. “Captain Khan was one such fearless example”, Mr Ryan said.
Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., who served on active duty and is a colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, criticized Trump and Ryan Saturday.
On Sunday, Ghazala Khan responded in the Post to Trump’s remarks, saying, “Donald Trump has asked why I did not speak at the Democratic convention. I think I’ve done a lot”, Mr Trump said about his sacrifices.
“I do tremble before those who would scapegoat other Americans, who would insult people because of their religion, their ethnicity their disability”, she told parishioners in a Cleveland church on Sunday morning.
He further rebutted Khan’s speech saying that he made sacrifices as a businessman, has worked very hard and has created “thousands and thousands of jobs”.
“If he studied the real Islam and Koran, all the ideas he gets from terrorists would change, because terrorism is a different religion”. Lindsay Graham told the New York Times, “This is going to a place where we’ve never gone before, to push back against the families of the fallen”.
He also implied that about of a third of the responses he’s gotten from Americans are from Republican politicians but said he would not disclose names.
Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine also expressed shock at Trump’s comments on the Khans, stating that his remarks demonstrated his “temperamental unfitness”.
She described how her family came to the United States from Pakistan after enduring the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, of her son’s lifelong patriotism, and how she decided not to speak at the convention because of her pain over Captain Khan’s 2004 death.
OH governor John Kasich, who sought the GOP presidential nomination, said: “There’s only one way to talk about Gold Star parents: with honour and respect”.
Mr Trump’s campaign team released a statement on Saturday night – in a bid to limit the damage – in which he praised Mr Khan’s son but rejected his criticism.
Yet Mr Trump has attracted a fervent following among working class white males, and stands near even with Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the polls. “This is a time for all Americans to stand with the Khans and with all the families whose children have died in service to our country”.
