Hillary Clinton goads Trump as she accepts Democratic nomination

By contrast, protests at this past week’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia were significantly larger than those in Cleveland, but pretty much in line with what we’ve seen at Democratic conventions in the past two decades. The Clinton campaign said outside experts had found no evidence that its internal systems had been compromised.

But those voices waned as the week went on, likely due to a combination of Mr. Sanders’ own pleas, a sense of resignation, and a lack of coordination.

Pamela Eakes, a Clinton fundraiser and delegate from Seattle, said it saddened her to see demonstrators interrupt the Monday speech of Rep. Elijah Cummings, a senior black congressman from Maryland.

On Wednesday night Barack Obama reminded us how he managed to sweep practically out of nowhere and win the presidency in 2008. “The choice is not even close”.

Second, many of Sanders’s most ardent supporters do not closely identify with the Democratic Party.

The top five contributors to pro-Clinton groups are employees or owners of private investment funds, and seven financial firms alone have generated the almost $48.5 million for groups working on Clinton’s behalf.

Making the longest acceptance speech for 40 years Donald Trump was accepted by the American Republican Party for election to the office of the next President of the United States last week.

When the Associated Press reported that Clinton had cinched the number of votes needed for the Democratic nomination, the evening newscast of Channel One Russia used the event to point out that Roger Clinton (Hillary’s brother-in-law) had a DUI. “And you have to come from the left”.

This was a Republican convention like no other, and Trump himself is a candidate like no other and if he wins will be a president like no other as well. The following evening, a half-dozen speakers who either lost family members to gun violence or were victims themselves, urged tighter gun-control measures.

“In the past, there was a feeling that this was too hard to talk about”, said Shira Goodman of the gun-control advocacy group CeaseFirePA. “We need those people in the country”. But rather than show up at the convention in Cleveland, majority simply stayed away, notably including Ohio Gov. John Kasich. Without irony, she also criticized Trump for his dark vision, adding (to cheers), “America is great because America is good”.

But Stephanopoulos presses: “What sacrifice have you made for your country?”

Senator Bernie Sanders stands for a tendency within liberalism, not something entirely outside it, so he isn’t the Democratic equivalent of Trump.

On the issue of national security, the Clinton campaign has set up tent in what is traditionally Republican territory.

She went on to pledge support for a raft of progressive policy positions, including tuition-free college and higher taxes on Wall Street. It emphasizes Clinton’s gender-a lot of people still have trouble reconciling the roles of “mother” and “powerful person who does an important and time-consuming job”. And he noted that the “no more war” message was shouted down with chants of “USA!” U.S.!” – a tactic he said Republicans had long used as “a way of saying, ‘Be quiet: War policy is war policy’.

“Excluded from Hillary Clinton’s America are the suffering people living in our inner cities, or the victims of open borders and drug cartels, or the people who’ve lost their jobs because of the Clintons’ trade deals, or any hardworking person who doesn’t have enough money to get a seat at Hillary Clinton’s table”, said Stephen Miller, a senior Trump adviser in a statement. “Did Hillary’s script writers write it?”

“These younger supporters are bawling. Many feel betrayed”, said Chuck Pennacchio, a Bucks County Sanders delegate and longtime activist.

Charles Chieppo, research fellow at the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School and head of Chieppo Strategies, a public policy writing and advocacy firm.

But some are skeptical that she can get there at all.

At the conventions, each campaign took a clear populist turn. That won’t be easy to measure until November 8. The surveyor then counted five people to the right of the anchor and invited that person to take a survey, and so on, until getting three surveys. Unfortunately, the only people who thrill to its implications are people who are already planning to vote for Clinton.
