World number one Jason Day approaches the third hole on his Sunday round. Yesterday’s play: it might have been frustrating, but it was a good one for Kevin Kisner and Padraig Harrington, who both shot third-round 65s before the gloom descended.

Jimmy Walker – whose astrophotography has captured images such as the Horsehead Nebula and the Pinwheel Galaxy deemed so good that Nasa have purchased the images – shot a final round 67 for an aggregate total of 266, 14-under-par.

This already was shaping up as a major like no other.

The top 70 players and ties qualified for the weekend, with 69 eventually finishing on one over par or better to let the likes of Rose, Ernie Els and Matt Fitzpatrick make the final two rounds.

South Africa’s Branden Grace added his name to the list of contenders for the final major of the year as the weather-affected US PGA Championship headed towards a tense climax.

It meant that a ball lying on a closely mown area through the green may be lifted and cleaned, with the player marking its position and placing it on a spot within one club length and not nearer the hole.

Thunderstorms forced the suspension of play before the final 10 players could tee off on Saturday leaving officials to try to squeeze in two rounds on Sunday.

“Because I messed up the front nine without missing that many shots”, Molinari said.

The final round figured to be the toughest, especially with the cast of characters behind him.

After a bogey on the seventh hole dropped him back to even for the day, Scott came to the tee on eight and piped a 311-yard drive down the middle on the short par 4. He began the back nine by holing a 45-foot bunker shot on No. 10 and making a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 11.

Good morning all! Welcome to the final round of the US PGA major.

“I just made a couple of loose swings, and finally I settled in”, said Walker, who finished with a third-round 68 and is scheduled to tee off for the final round at 3:16 p.m. (ET).

The PGA Championship has had 13 playoffs since the tournament moved to stroke play in 1958.

“Today is the first day I putted halfway decent, so hopefully it’s a step in the right direction”, McGirt said on TNT. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of going out there and trying to win my second major”.

Stenson, who won his first major title two weeks ago at Royal Troon, fired his third consecutive 67 to share third on 201 with American Brooks Koepka.

That par gave him a 3-under 67 and a one-shot victory and made the 37-year-old from Texas a major champion.

With 18 holes between him, a maiden major title and a Ryder Cup spot, however, Koepka, spurred by drive and adrenaline, isn’t too anxious about the pain at this point.
