Russia’s eight weightlifting berths in the Olympics have been offered to other countries.
“The integrity of the weightlifting sport has been seriously damaged on multiple times and levels by the Russians”, the IWF said in a statement.
On July 24, the International Olympic Committee held a meeting of its executive board to discuss possible blanket ban of Russian athletes at the Rio Olympics. Individual decisions on Russian athletes have been referred to relevant worldwide federations.
A final figure is expected this weekend with the boxing, golf, gymnastic, taekwondo federations still to confirm their verdicts.
Russian pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva said on Thursday she intends to move various courts to prove that she had been illegally barred from the Rio Olympic Games, opening on August 5.
She says in an Instagram post that she had filed an application with the IAAF as an individual to have her case reconsidered, but “they didn’t make an exception for me”.
RUSSIAN swimmers Vladimir Morozov and Nikita Lobintsev on Saturday launched the first challenge against International Olympic Committee sanctions excluding them from the Rio Olympics.
The Belarusian wrestling team have booked one more berth for the 2016 Rio Games.
In total, 13 weightlifting medals won in London have now been tainted by doping, comprising four gold, four silver and five bronze.
Smirnov also insisted that the government was not involved in doping, despite allegations in the report for WADA by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren that sports ministry officials oversaw a mass doping program and a cover-up.
But the new procedure, when and if approved by WADA, will be used to test samples from the Rio Olympics after the games to see if any athletes were gene doping, Budgett said.
Brazil’s federal government has severed its contract with a security firm that was to operate x-ray machines during the Summer Olympic Games that begins in just a week’s time. More than 250 Russian athletes have been cleared to compete by the federations.
