Praveen Rana named as Narsingh Yadav’s replacement

The Dispute With both the A and B samples coming back positive, it means Yadav would have needed to prove his food was contaminated in a conspiracy to prevent him from competing.

Narsingh himself desisted from taking names but WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh revealed them while talking to the media. “Hence I request you to kindly look personally into the case and to go into the depth of the incidence”, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote in a letter to Sports Minister Vijay Goel.

The Rio Games are set to start on August 5 with controversy raging over the International Olympic Committee’s decision not to impose a blanket ban to Russian Federation, accused of state-sponsored doping.

In 2011 six top Indian women runners tested positive for banned steroids.

Rana, who is a former junior world medallist, will head to Georgia with the India team on Wednesday and train with them for the remaining part before Rio Games.

Yadav was picked over two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar after he won India’s quota place with a bronze medal in last year’s World Championships.

A day after Narsingh failed the dope test, his roommate Sandeep Tulsi Yadav at SAI (Sports Authority of India), Sonepat, also tested positive for the same substance. The UWW has made a statement saying “The Indian Olympic Association informed United World Wrestling of their desire to enter Parveen Rana as their nation’s replacement in 74 kg in men’s freestyle”.

He added: “We could not understand why Narsingh would use anything which could hamper his career”.

A random dope test was conducted on the athlete in the last week of June and Inderjeet’s “A” sample tested positive for steroids androsterone and etiocholanolone.

Little wonder that support has been coming thick and fast for Narsingh Yadav in the doping row. “We are also sending a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding for inquiry into the matter”, said Narsingh’s father Pancham Yadav, a native of Neema Murari village in Varanasi. Plus the wrestler has previously never tested positive makes Narsingh’s case much stronger. Yadav earned the Olympic qualification with his bronze at worlds, but Kumar wanted the spot despite not participating in India’s Olympic Trials.
