New York Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera sustained a strained patella tendon in his left knee while running the bases Sunday and was forced to leave the game against the Rockies, the team announced. 255 with 13 home runs and 33 RBI.
Cabrera was hurt while scoring from first base on Neil Walker’s two-out triple.
Once Cabrera is placed on the DL, expect either Dilson Herrera or Matt Reynolds to get the call-up. “He was in a lot of pain – a lot more than I’ve ever seen him”.
If Cabrera requires a stint on the disabled list, he would become the sixth member of the Mets’ starting Opening Day lineup to hit the shelf.
With Jose Reyes having landed on the disabled list Saturday with a strained intercostal muscle on his left side, Flores is the only capable shortstop on the active roster.
“It’s been kind of a unusual year with the injury bug”, Walker said. At least that was the clubhouse consensus following Sunday’s 6-4 loss to the New York Mets.

De Aza began the go-ahead rally in the seventh by drawing a one-out walk against Rockies left-hander Boone Logan (1-1).
