Alongside a confident display from Bailly, fellow debutant Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a pounds 26?million signing from Borussia Dortmund, also impressed Mourinho, his first-half performance marked by probing runs and silky footwork that threatened Wigan’s defence.

“I am excited for it”, the United captain said of the campaign ahead, shortly after landing in Shanghai. “Of course we’re getting ready for the new season so we are trying to do everything the coach is asking from us”.

New boss Jose Mourinho opted to mix it up by selecting a squad comprising of youth and experience. We’ve made some fantastic singings.

‘Hopefully we can have a good start to the season and be successful by the end of it’. The former Villarreal man will most likely line up along side Chris Smalling this season, as United look to qualify for the Champions League and challenge for the title.

“You always feel you’ve got to prove yourself each season”. “I think day by day it will be better”.

‘The first days are always very hard.
