Brazilian reports reaffirmed yesterday that Manchester United were in negotiations for the signing of AS Monaco’s defensive midfielder and right-back Fabinho.
Bastian Schweinsteiger headlines a nine-man list of players manager Jose Mourinho has deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United, per Joe Bernstein of MailOnline. “He wants us to play with a lot of freedom, a lot of rotation in the forward positions, lots of opportunities to score goals – and I think I can do that, score the goals to help us be successful”.
Rooney, who will line up against boyhood club Everton in his testimonial at Old Trafford on Wednesday, also hopes United can secure the annual Community Shield against English champions Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday.
“I’ve seen that in him already”, Rooney told the Daily Mail, discussing Mourinho’s bold approach to management.
Bailly has explained how his fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba, played a part in helping him make up his mind.
Bailly, who signed a four-year contract at United, made a total of 47 appearances for Villarreal and has been capped 15 times by Ivory Coast at worldwide level.
The only three players who haven’t featured yet in the preseason friendlies managed by Jose Mourinho are Bastian Schweinsteiger, Chris Smalling and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
Speaking to MUTV after the 5-2 win over Galatasaray in Gothenburg, Mourinho was asked about players who came on and whether or not they had demonstrated they are in his plans.
“Yaya [Toure] also called me and wanted me to come to City, but once Jose spoke to me and Didier gave me advice, I knew straight away I wanted to play for him”, the defender added.

“The other day I was telling them we have 38 matches in the Premier League, we have the possibility of 15 matches in the Europa League plus the domestic cups”.
