Instead, he followed his remarkably dark convention speech (75 minutes that can be summarized as “be very afraid, and only I can save you”) with a renewed attack on vanquished GOP primary rival Ted Cruz and a series of irresponsible statements that stand out even by Trump standards.

It’s pretty sad when the Democrat convention is keynoted by the holy trinity of liars: Bill “I never had sex” Clinton on Tuesday, Barack “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” Obama on Wednesday and Hillary “It was a spontaneous riot due to an internet video” on Thursday. Perhaps it is only fitting that it took the family of a Muslim American hero to further expose the candidate’s lack of a sense of decency.
Mr Trump’s comments about Mrs Khan came a day after he criticised retired four-star general John Allen and blasted a Colorado Springs, Colorado, fire marshal for capping attendance at one of his speeches. The fire marshal, Brett Lacey, was recently honored by the city as “Civilian of the Year” for his role in helping the wounded at a 2015 mass shooting at a local Planned Parenthood.
And so we look forward to hearing not more platitudes and broad prescriptions but specifically what each candidate would do to improve the lives of Americans while safeguarding our nation from threats both foreign and domestic.
