A flood caused by an intense rainstorm ripped through the downtown of Ellicott City, Md., late Saturday night, leaving a path of death and destruction that shocked even the most flood-scarred residents and shopkeepers of the old mill town.

One victim was a woman and the other was a man, said spokesman Mark Miller.

“I didn’t know how I was going to get out”, she said. Soon, she said, a flash flood warning alerted on Tolley’s phone, and “all of a sudden it started leaking in the basement bar”. “But we are just going to promise them that we are going to provide all the resources that we can to help them”.

Another man told CBS Baltimore the water came all the way up to his waist.

“You know, all I can say is, I’m just happy to be alive”, said Weglein.

Karry Brown, 42, was enjoying dinner with his wife ahead of their anniversary on Monday at the Phoenix Emporium on Main Street when the rain intensified, prompting restaurant staff to move the 50 or so guests up to a third floor.

With so much rainfall, there was nowhere for it to go other than the street.

“This was different”, said David Dempster, who owns Still Life Gallery on Main Street with his wife, Sara Arditti. Both were discovered in the Patapsco River. I would love to hear your thoughts and memories as we pray for all those affected by the flash flood of July 30, 2016.
