Orioles end 5-game skid, beat Jays in 12
The Baltimore Orioles accomplished plenty with their 12-inning, 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.

Orioles 6, Blue Jays 2 (12 innings) – At Toronto: Jonathan Schoop singled home the go-ahead run in the 12th inning and Baltimore ended a season-worst five-game losing streak to reclaim the AL East lead.
“We came here in first place, we’re going to try to maintain it”. It’s going to be tough. But beating the team that just beat you and took first place away from you the day before … well, that’s better than a victory over a rebuilding outfit.
Mets 6, Rockies 4 – At New Yok: Neil Walker hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh off Boone Logan (1-1) following James Loney’s 10-pitch walk, helping NY stop a four-game losing streak that matched its season high. He committed a balk on a pickoff throw to first and Alvarez was awarded second base. Alvarez scored when Schoop singled to left with one out.
Baltimore’s Jonathan Schoop, left, greeting Adam Jones, who blasted a three-run homer in the 12th.
The Rockies had a five-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the second time in the last 11 games.
The thumb swelled considerably and the Blue Jays do not yet know how much time, if any, Tulowitzki might have to miss.
Asked whether he can play with it, Gibbons said. “I could throw, but wasn’t able to grip a bat”. “Obviously he got me pretty good”.
Tulowitzki said he could still play defense but could not grip a bat after being hit.
“I think the biggest thing, I feel strong, I feel like I haven’t even broke a sweat in terms of that aspect”, Sanchez said. “So get up, come to the field and see how it feels. Hopefully not too long”.
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was taken out of Sunday’s loss to Baltimore two innings after he was hit on the right hand by a 93-mph fastball from Orioles starter Chris Tillman in the sixth. They were particularly ineffective against the Blue Jays, as righties Kevin Gausman and Yovani Gallardo combined to cough up 11 earned runs in 7.1 innings July 29 and 30. “Regardless of the score and what conventionality tells you, I’m putting my best pitcher on the field”. (The bullpen) has been good all year.
He pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out three.
“They have a solid pitching staff and their starters are really good”, Showalter said.
Chalk this loss up to the Blue Jays bullpen, Franklin Morales in particular.
Toronto opened the scoring in the second when Russell Martin doubled and scored on Devon Travis’ groundout. Jones greeted Chavez by homering on the first pitch.
New York Yankees’ Carlos Beltran strikes out swinging against Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Blake Snell during the first inning of a baseball game Sunday, July 31, 2016, in St. Petersburg, Fla. With two on and none out, Alvarez scored Davis by grounding out to second and Wieters hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Trumbo.
Sanchez was once again on the top of his game, nearly toying for the most part with a good-hitting Baltimore team on Sunday, but it was not enough as the Orioles were able to produce a 6-2 win in 12 innings.

Blue Jays: Josh Donaldson started at DH after leaving Saturday’s game in the eighth with a sore hamstring. Orioles OF Joey Rickard (right thumb ligament), who has a torn ligament in his right thumb that was injured July 20, will have be re-evaluated Monday and could have the bulky splint removed.
