Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp plays down further transfer market involvement

Klopp has certainly been a busy man in the transfer window so far, having cleared out a raft of deadwood from Anfield, plus some young talent that he felt weren’t quite up to scratch.

Jurgen Klopp decided against signing players he had worked with previously for Liverpool, including Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

“These two players have obviously played in the Premier League and got the experience, so there’s no need for a bedding-in period with them, it’s more a case of going out there and performing”.

“That is how everybody in football understands it”.

“I expect him to start the season”, the Liverpool boss said of Matip.

“I want that if you see Chelsea, you recognize “oh, Chelsea are playing”.

“The manager needs to be given that strength to then say if “I take a decision to drop somebody or to send them home or tell someone off then you will have to back me” – and the fans do”.

“We built this team only to be successful, not one where we say we will have to wait”. Barcelona did it. You can win championships, you can win titles, but there is a manner in which you want it.

“But if we all get behind Henderson and he finds his top form he can be a very big asset for Klopp this year”.

“We have a few rules; a few from me, a few from the team”.

“This period in every year is one of a lot of expectations”.

“If you all swim in the same pool, the pool is too small – you all go for the same players, ‘ he continued. What are they doing?'” “I want us challenging”, the former winger said.

“If you have seen them in training, there is a special quality that we did not have previous year”, said Klopp.

“You learn from your mistakes and that’s the most important thing”. “If we agree then we will do it but only then for the right price”.

“It is using experience, using the base and not killing the base and starting completely new”.

The players have been undergoing double sessions to work on fitness and tactics and competition for places is high.

However, Klopp has warned both the new arrivals and the existing members of his squad they have to prove their value to the team and not their individual worth. The German said he doesn’t know if he’ll more signings will happen before the transfer window closes.
