Police received reports of gunshots in a crowded entertainment area shortly after 2am local time (8am BST) on Sunday.

He said a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He said another victim declined to be taken to hospital. No one was injured, and nearby individuals disarmed the suspect, who was injured and transported to a hospital.

Shortly after the incident, another shot was sacked in a nearby parking garage.

Another witness, Kristin Holt, said, “I saw a guy run through the alleyway… he was like, ‘Wow that woman just got shot in the chest and she just collapsed'”.

Authorities in the Texas capital are asking those with videos of the incidents to send them to police.

Apparently, after a “disturbance” on Sixth Street, the suspect pulled out his weapon and began firing into the crowd that gathered in the popular nightlife district.

Police originally reported an active shooter scene in the area, but Manley said the two separate incidents caused the confusion. “Stay away from downtown”.

Police had not released the names of the victims Sunday evening, but relatives identified the woman who was killed as 30-year-old Teqnika Moultrie, a bus driver from San Carlos, Calif.

Officials say one person is dead and three others have been hospitalized in a shooting in downtown Austin.

“Active shooter incident downtown, multiple victims”. One of the potential challenges for police will be finding a witness who was not drinking at the time of the shooting.

Police later confirmed there had been a second, separate shooting incident in the area, which took place just minutes later, although only the gunman was injured after bystanders tackled him. They later clarified that the two incidents were unrelated.
