Independent Commission, chaired by Canadian law professor, Richard McLaren, released a report on July 18 on the results of its probe into the accusations of doping and manipulation of tests by Russian athletes and officials at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee has said a three-member panel will make the “final decision” on which Russian athletes can compete in the Rio Olympics, set to begin in less than a week.

Rachel Smalley chats with Rikki Swannell about IOC President Thomas Bach being bombarded by questions regarding the Russian doping scandel at the first media conference building up to Rio.

Thomas Bach snapped at suggestions the committee’s response to the crisis had been a huge failure, claiming it was “very obvious” where responsibility lay as a result of the “timing” of the Wada-commissioned report, which found Russian Federation guilty of state-sponsored doping and a cover-up on a staggering scale.

She said security seems to have improved, but called the theft “concerning”. “Russian Federation has financial, moral, political will, intellectual resources, we are able to create such a system together with the world”, Mutko said. We are looking forward to a great Games here in Rio.

Diana Taurasi scored 15 of her 20 points during a 5-minute span in the third quarter to help the USA women’s Olympic team beat Australia, 104-89, on Sunday in an exhibition game at Madison Square Garden.

“If this system was applied like this, it’s an attack on everything we want to represent”.

“What we have to decide then is much more hard, because we now have to decide what does this system mean for each and every individual”.

“Because your government has manipulated the anti-doping system, you don’t even have the chance to show you are not part of this system?”

More than 250 Russian athletes have so far been cleared to compete.

The move comes amid a doping scandal that has led to the exclusion of more than 100 Russian athletes connected to state-sponsored cheating.

Swimmer Yulia Efimova and wrestler Viktor Lebidev registered appeals at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) taking the total number of Russian challenges to International Olympic Committee sanctions to four, with more possible.

“We have taken all arguments into consideration, in particular the advice from the athletes’ commission”.

“There are so many comments, I can not comment on everything”, Bach said.
