‘Jason Bourne’ A Dull Chapter in the Bourne Saga

“I heard my co-actor, he had this line in the first take – ‘Jesus Christ, that’s Jason Bourne.’ And I just started to laugh, because I just found it such a moment… it’s such a classic line from this franchise”, she said. It’s a disappointing, but I can only give Jason Bourne a C. One scene in particular involves a auto chase that is brutal, exciting and downright fun.

Jason Bourne ignores the inconsequential events of 2012 film and carries on the story nearly a decade after the events of 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum. “I knew I didn’t want to do it without him”. As a defender of The Bourne Legacy, though, I was interested to see where Jeremy Renner would take the franchise as another spy – one a little more friendly than the cold and calculating Bourne.

The brilliance of the series is that it married a complicated, amnesiac hero with dazzling and visceral in-your-face action set-pieces. The Avengers star was great as Ben Affleck’s partner in crime in The Town, but unfortunately his turn at helming the Bourne franchise was a complete dud. There’s still the older Central Intelligence Agency official big bad trying to keep a lid on Bourne, (this time it’s Tommy Lee Jones, following in the footsteps of Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and David Strathairn), the brainwashed assassin trying to kill Bourne, operation rooms full of technical gear that can track anything and everything, whiplash fight sequences, and a climactic vehicle chase. Then at the end of “The Bourne Ultimatum”, we heard Jason say, “I remember everything”. The conflict doesn’t show the audience anything new about the character; it’s just an excuse for Bourne to shoot some people and wreck property.

The actor had to focus on a restrictive'no carbs diet consisting of vegetables and protein only to bulk up for the role
