Ne-Yo performed Marvin Gaye’s 1971 classic “What’s Going On“, after which Alba implored, “These teens had the courage to come here and share their grief, and tonight all of us here need to do the same”.

Alba’s message was simple, striking, and a complete tonal shift from a night of Vine star references and selfie competitions: “It keeps happening, and it has to stop”.

Fans accused the Teen Choice Awards of using Grimmie for ratings without honoring her, pointing to an official tweet in which they asked followers to retweet in memory of the singer.

The pop star was given the accolade for “dominating the world of entertainment” over the past 10 years, and with the win, he made Teen Choice Awards history as the male star with the most victories with an impressive total of 23. After quoting Muhammad Ali, Timberlake said, “Be generous, kind, fair”.

In his speech, Justin talked about how grateful he was to have been brought up by parents who taught him to respect both himself and others, and to always choose compassion and love over prejudice and hate. After the song, the two celebs stood together with the family members and asked everyone in the audience to take a picture and post it to social media with #stoptheviolence.

‘Don’t count the days, make the days count’.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail relays the words of Garner, who shared how strong the families she spoke with seem, even when facing such challenging times.
