Jordan Taylor imitates Odell Beckham at Broncos camp

With no true locks to make the team for the receiver position outside of Thomas and Sanders, through the first four days of training camp it does seem like Fowler and Latimer, along with veteran Jordan Norwood, have the upper hand over the younger competition.

As our Ryan Koenigsberg reported, Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch looked like himself on Sunday at training camp, especially on downfield throws.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos don’t need help at many spots on the depth chart. “And we’re going to pay attention to detail like that”, running back C.J. Anderson recalled his position coach declaring on that day back in April. Legs get a little exhausted today and yet he keeps going. “It is scary”, Kubiak said.

The battle for starting quarterback continued and all three QBs – Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch – took reps.

Outside of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, the Denver Broncos’ top two wide receivers, the receiver group is a wide-open race, and it’s not due to a lack of talent. But both of those seasons also featured a pair of 1,000-yard receivers.

Kubiak said Ronnie Hillman will take on a special teams role and that’s part of evaluation as they look to carry 3-4 backs. We’ve got to improve as a team.

Sanders said the same goes for the offense. “That’s game day. You’re out there playing all day long, everybody’s wore out, the quarterback’s got to step up and make plays”.

“Well, I think they all stepped up”. “But it shows we’re passionate about it….”

Anderson has only run behind one fullback in his National Football League career, James Casey, who was released a month into the 2015 season as the Broncos realized they had to alter their approach for Manning.

The “young guys” Dennison is referring to – Bralon Addison, Mose Frazier, Durron Neal and Kalif Raymond – are all undrafted rookies that the Broncos brought in to primarily compete in the return game, but now the Broncos are seeing their value as wide receivers too. Of course, T.D. had a fullback here. “And all those offenses won big”. “That may not have been the smartest thing we’ve done out there”, Nelson said. “But don’t be surprised, we will put the ball in the air because we have playmakers on the outside”.

And Kubiak has consistently said he would prefer if the Broncos didn’t have a specialist as a returner.
