Cubs reportedly are close to a trade with Yankees for Aroldis Chapman
Lefty Andrew Miller is likely to resume his closer’s role from 2015 (and during Chapman’s suspension) with Dellin Betances again elevated to the eighth inning. The Yankees will receive prospects Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney, Adam Warren and one more player as part of the deal.

The New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs have reportedly agreed on a deal that will send baseball’s hardest thrower, Aroldis Chapman, to the Cubs.
But the Cubs believe Chapman, who has a 3-0 record with a 2.01 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings, is worth the cost and controversy surrounding him.
The move has been met with some controversy considering the prospects that the Cubs gave to the Yankees for Chapman and the reliever’s domestic incident this past winter. Chapman, pitcher Ivan Nova, Beltran and Teixeira are eligible for free agency at the end of the season; Miller, signed through 2018 at $9 million, also is of interest to contenders.
Chapman also has been cited for numerous driving violations – primarily speeding penalties – in Florida.
Do you think the Chicago Cubs made the right move by acquiring Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees?
Chicago’s Torres, who is just 19, is the No. 27 ranked Baseball America prospect playing in the minor leagues according to the company’s midseason rankings that were just released.
The Hot Stove is heating up, and we are still a week away from the trade deadline. That trade looks even better for the Yankees now, as they essentially traded Brendan Ryan for Castro, a trade that would even be tough to execute in a video game.
The 21-year-old McKinney was acquired by the Cubs originally in a trade that netted the OaklandAthletics pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel. The bullpen has been one of the lone weak spots for Chicago this season, but with this trade, this could push them over the top. Torres had a. 275 batting average with 9 homeruns and 47 RBI’s in single A advanced with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
Chapman, who threw the 62 fastest pitches in the majors last season, was traded from Cincinnati to NY last December after a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers fell through when it was learned Florida police investigated an accusation of domestic violence involving the Cuban pitcher.
