CEO of Pokémon Go’s Niantic Labs hacked on Twitter

On Sunday, the hacking team reportedly posted messages using Hanke’s Twitter and Quora accounts.

Popular Pokémon Go tracking site Pokévision has been shut down.

A series of tweets were posted on July 31 to Hanke’s 16,000 followers. “Hey, it’s OurMine, don’t worry we are just testing your security”, read one Tweet.

While the tweets suggest that the attacker is Robin Hood hacker collective OurMine, the inconsistent tweet structure leaves room for questions.

OurMine has also claimed responsibility for cracking Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s Twitter account earlier this month. However, in this case, the tweets which were posted on Hanke’s Twitter account nearly 14 hours back can still be found online. In order for us to offer new experiences to play Pokémon Go with Pokémon Go Plus with a quality level high enough to satisfy as many people as possible, we decided that it is necessary to take enough time for the completion. A SurveyMonkey data survey claims Pokémon GO is the biggest mobile game in U.S. history.

We’ve seen Google’s, Twitter’s and even Facebook’s CEOs suffer social media account hacks this year, but it seems that hackers have an appetite for game development companies too. The hacker group says it brings out the flaws in security in user’s account by hacking in to them. However, Niantic Labs CEO clarified later the mobile game wasn’t collecting user’s data.
