Truex captures pole at Pocono

For the second time this season, rain washed out a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the track.

Pocono Raceway announced that parking lots will open at 7 a.m. and gates will open at 8 a.m. A ticket will be required to attend.

Truex Jr. turned a lap of 179.244 miles per hour to earn the number one starting position for the 21st race of the 2016 season.

On the strength of his run through the Tunnel Turn, Truex covered the distance in 50.211 seconds, .104 seconds faster than Edwards (178.873 mph), who thought he had the pole won when he completed his lap in the final round.

Truex said his No. 78 Toyota was strong enough to contend for a victory. The red flag was displayed with 22 to go and after a almost 80-minute wait NASCAR officials deemed the race over.

Leading 149 of 170 laps speaks for itself, but as unbeatable as Busch was, performances like his at Indianapolis have become somewhat unsurprising given the level at which Joe Gibbs Racing has operated this season. “We just lost the track and got up against the clock to get everything done”. “Those guys were racing the heck out of each other and racing for their first win, and there was rain in the forecast so that was for the win in my opinion”. Ryan Newman, Menard’s Richard Childress Racing teammate, will start in fifth. Buescher and crew chief Bob Osborne played the right strategy cards and took advantage of the same opportunity everyone else had in the field to celebrate in Victory Lane.

Buescher, the reigning XFINITY Series champion, has five races to get into the top 30 and lock in his playoff spot.

Buescher entered the race outside the top 30 in points, and cracking the top 30 was one of the two major requirements of making the Chase. “They just got us”. “As Brad alluded to, the cloud kind of came at the right time for us”. He has a driver rating of 106.0 at this track and an average finish of 12.4. Austin Dillon was 12th. Furthermore, four members of his Kyle Busch Motorsports team hail from the state of Pennsylvania. The Team Penske driver walked away unhurt and he blamed an improperly installed brake line on the crash.

Gordon was feted with dozens of retirement presents from tracks in 2015, and he’s too appreciative of the gestures to re-gift them to other friends. “It’s just the way it is”.

“I was really working as hard as I could to get around Ty. Odds are, that if 100 people take that hit, one or two are not gonna be standing here anymore”. Jeff Gordon starts for Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the second consecutive race in 24th. Earnhardt missed his third straight race because he suffers from symptoms of a concussion.

Gordon came out of retirement to drive Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevrolet. And Monday races are a burden for everyone involved in NASCAR.

“I wish Dale a speedy recovery”.

“Kyle Busch breaks an incredible record last week and I break an very bad record this week”, a disappointed Igdalsky said in the media center. Several cars had not passed inspection when qualifying was scheduled to start.
