John McCain Slams Donald Trump For His Comments On The Khan Family
“Election year or not, the VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression”, VFW leader Brian Duffy said.

House Speaker Paul Ryan defended slain Muslim U.S. soldier Capt. Humayun Khan’s military experience after his father spoke at the Democratic National Convention, adding he doesn’t believe the country should add a religious test to the immigration process. She says she was just grief-stricken. While Trump’s remarks drew harsh criticism from the rest of the GOP field, McCain was dismissive of the comment. “Hillary voted for the Iraq war, not me!” he tweeted.
“By disrespecting one military family, Trump disrespects all military families”, McGuire said in a statement.
The mogul’s sustained hostility toward the couple – alarming in part because criticism of Gold Star families of war dead has traditionally been off-limits in American political discourse – incensed Senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war once mocked by Trump for being captured in Vietnam.
I’m fixing to do Donald Trump a big favor, since he clearly does not grasp the axiomatic Law of Holes. As Mr. Trump has noted, he could stand on 5th Avenue and shoot someone and it wouldn’t matter; his support flows from people so disenchanted with the traditions of American politics that he seems to face no penalty when he violates a cardinal rule.
In the days since, the Khans have made the rounds on television, saying on CNN’s “State of the Union” program Sunday that Trump “is a black soul” and calling on congressional GOP leaders to repudiate Trump’s comments.
His response to the Muslim family who lost a loved one – a U.S. Army captain – in Iraq, was clearly wrong, obtusely and insensitively so.
On Monday, Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Andy McGuire called Trump’s comments “despicable and disgraceful” in demanding that Iowa Republicans publicly condemn the GOP presidential standard-bearer’s “hateful rhetoric” in criticizing the mother of a fallen US soldier. They represent the best of our country. Trump said in an interview with ABC’s This Week that he’d made “a lot of sacrifices” in his life, including providing jobs and launching businesses.
McCain, who has endorsed Trump and is in a tough re-election battle, correctly blasted Trump for his attack on the Khans. I reject it. Many Muslim Americans have served valiantly in our military, and made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Honestly, the main takeaway from these two weeks is that, incredibly, we may be on the brink of electing such a damaged, sociopathic narcissist, that the simple presidential duty of comforting the families of fallen soldiers may actually be beyond his capabilities”, Oliver continued. He also questioned why Ghazala Khan did not speak.
Haley has butted heads with Trump since late previous year, even giving him a subtle jab in her nationally televised Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.
He also said that Ghazala Khan might not have been “allowed” to speak, implying her silence reflected restrictions placed on women by some traditional Muslims. “But I think you’re hearing a guy who’s anxious about whether he can be reelected in Arizona”, Giuliani said in an interview with The Washington Post.
