Per Mobile & Apps, the iPad Mini 5 could actually be barely 5 mm thick.

On the reports from Macworld, the iPad Mini 5 could run by a A9 processor.
Nothing is official if Apple would feature the iPad Mini 5 on its September 2016 event.
Since the device will have a smaller battery, it will also be thinner than the 6.1mm iPad mini 4.
This will surely be good news for users who want an ultra-thin iPad, but it does bring one major downside.
Based on iPhone 7, Apple could discontinue the 16B model for the iPad Mini 5 and go for the base model of 32GB for a price of $450.
Although the exact dates of the launch are not confirmed, yet looking at the launch dates of the previous generation of iPad Mini, it can be anticipated that launch will be in September.
If this rumor turns out to be true, then Apple is obviously adamant in moving forward with totally removing the headphone jack for all of its future products and not just the iPhone. However, it is already expected that the new iPad Air will feature massive improvements over its predecessor, and may also come out with an overhauled design and form factor.
It’s important to note that this is just a rumor for now, but knowing Apple’s reputation with how it upgrades its devices, this is not that farfetched.

Though there are still no speculations about the display, screen quality and resolution, it’s nearly certain that the iPad Mini 5 will be a lot better than its predecessor. It is expected to hit online and offline retailers in three variants of storage spaces. It may still sport an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front camera. Like the iPhone 7, the new tablet will be ditching the 16GB internal storage variant.
