Austin Police say two separate shooting incidents that took place within the same downtown area are now contained.
Austin police say they want to question a 24-year-old possibly armed man in the overnight shootings. Minutes later, multiple people called 911 to report that more shots had been fired.
A medical official said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Early Sunday, the area around Sixth and Brazos streets was still shut down as police processed the scene.
One person died and four were injured, police said in a video press conference this morning. A weapon was pulled out and shots were fired, police said.
Austin Travis County EMS confirmed one fatality and say three people are in the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Police are still searching for the shooter, who opened fire into a crowd on Sixth and Brazos streets just after 2 a.m. Sunday.
It is unclear if the shooter is in police custody.
Because of the close proximity of the two separate shooting incidents both in terms of timing and geography, police initially thought they were dealing with an active shooter situation. The shooter was taken to a nearby hospital to attend the injuries he had received when he was taken down.
The suspect was disarmed and taken down by witnesses. “Are officers did a fantastic job coming in and trying to get to the victims and get aid immediately”, Chief Brian Manley, of the Austin Police Department, said.
A second unrelated shooting happened in a parking garage in the 800 block of Trinity Street, near the intersection with Eighth Street.
