Game of Thrones will come to an end in 2018
The programming president of the network, Casey Bloys, finally confirmed HBO’s willingness to go along with “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Bennioff and Dan Weiss’ plans to end the series at its eight season. “But we take their lead on what they need to make the best version of their show”, HBO president Casey Bloys said during the show’s summer press tour. And why would they want to let it go? GoT is easily among the most popular series the network has ever had and it is the reigning Emmy Award victor for Best TV Drama. Game of Thrones has such a rich world that Benioff and Weiss could probably find an interesting enough story to tell to extend the show a few more seasons, but it wouldn’t be right for the overarching story they’re trying to tell. “We only just got all the details about Season 7, and we’re still coming to terms with the fact that we’ll have to wait an entire year before the show returns (you can blame winter for that, literally) for just seven episodes, as opposed to the usual 10″. “It’s not something I’m opposed to but it has to make sense creatively”. I’m not sure that [showrunners Benioff and Weiss] could really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production [on season 7].

In case you hadn’t heard, HBO has officially made a decision to finish off Game of Thrones once and for all with season 8.
Fans of Game of Thrones, brace yourselves! More episodes? A season 9? “Game of Thrones” is starting production pretty soon, and some actors have already been seen heading to Belfast, where they base most of filming.

Season seven is expected to hit screens in summer 2017, and the final season is set to air in 2018. There are quite a number of confirmations that need to happen before the series culminates in Season 8, such as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) being introduced as the nephew of Ned Stark (Sean Penn) and not his actual bastard son. I’m open to it. The possibility for a Game of Thrones spinoff series, however, was indeed addressed.
