The Sun on Sunday claimed that Sigurdsson will sign a new deal that will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until he is 30.

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin said of Williams: “He is very important for us and I don’t know this situation and I can say nothing”.

Media reports suggest that Ronald Koeman is keen on luring Williams to the Toffees as a replacement for John Stones, who has attracted interest from Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City.

The reported interest in Williams comes at the same time as rumours West Ham are poised to make a £20m bid for Swansea’s Ghana global striker Andre Ayew.

Swansea’s openness to the Everton approach represents a surprise so close to the new Premier League season but the deal will yield a healthy profit on a player signed for £300,000 in 2008.

Ashley Williams was in superb form for Wales at Euro 2016.

Williams’s departure is the latest setback in a troubled transfer window for Swansea.
