Porous defense dooms Diamondbacks in 14-3 loss to Dodgers
With runners on first and third, Dodgers reliever Ross Stripling bounced a pitch in the dirt that catcher Grandal blocked. Apparently it’s a wild pitch – which, according to Rule 5.06(c)(7) in the MLB Official Rulebook, allowed Jake Lamb to score from third but saved Grandal from perhaps the most sad-trombone error of all time.

The Dodgers took the lead in the fifth inning when Turner and Puig doubled. Sunday’s game between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks gave us a fun moment when the ballgirl, Emily, made a snag of a hot shot off the bat of Brandon Drury. First it was a three-run jack off of Dominic Leone, then it was another three-run home run off of Steve Hathaway in the seventh, and finally in the eighth it was a two-run bomb off of Evan Marshall. Patrick Corbin takes the hill, and he’s 4-9 with a 5.31 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. Leaving in the top half of the first inning, Norris has yet to be diagnosed with a specific injury while the club’s training staff was forced to visit the mound even before his premature departure. OF Trace Thompson (lower back tightness) continues to progress toward a rehab assignment, taking batting practice, throwing and running, “sometime next week the goal”, said manager Dave Roberts…. The Los Angeles Dodgers offense has carried the way lately, and they’ve won five straight games when scoring more than three runs. Greinke will be on a five-inning/80-pitch limit….
NOTES: The Diamondbacks traded veteran RHP Tyler Clippard to the New York Yankees in exchange for RHP Vicente Campos.
Dodgers: LHP Brett Anderson will make his next rehab start Tuesday for either Oklahoma City or Rancho Cucamonga, depending upon weather and travel considerations….
Dodgers: Yasiel Puig (hamstring) was out of the Dodgers starting lineup for the seventh game in a row.
Diamondbacks: RHP Archie Bradley (4-6,5.63) makes his first career start against the Nationals on Monday night at home.

Scott Kazmir, who had not lost in his last 13 outings – going 7-0 during the run – struck out seven, walked none and surrendered four runs and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings as his streak ended.
