Gold Star families to Trump: Apologize for comments to Khans

Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday, where he delivered a withering criticism of Trump as a man who has “sacrificed nothing and no one” for his country. Now, Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, has issued a statement that appears created to put some space between the two men atop the GOP ticket.

Trump has managed to keep the story alive because he couldn’t resist getting involved in a public feud with the father of a fallen soldier.

So when Karen Meredith heard about the grieving parents of a decorated Muslim Army captain being disparaged by Donald True, she cried. Wasinger refused to comment when contacted by telephone. Kizer Khan said Trump has “sacrificed nothing” and pulled a Constitution out of his pocket, asking Trump if he’s even read the document. Trump stoked further outrage by implying Ghazala Khan did not speak while standing alongside her husband at the convention because she is a Muslim woman.

John McCain, a former prisoner of war, led the charge, saying Trump did not have “unfettered license to defame those who are the best among us”. During the speech, Ghazala Khan stood quietly by his side.

“There is no way that anybody else can understand what the veterans and the military families go through”, Melida Arredondo said. Trump and Clinton spoke to the group’s national convention last week.

With no mention of Donald Trump’s name, Republican Rep. Mac Thornberry of Texas says in a statement Monday that “there is never enough honor we can show” to the families of USA service members who are killed in action.

“I was in awe, it was just such a proud moment for me as an American Muslim and a veteran”, Rashid said, “my heart was just filled with gratitude for Mr. Khan and his wife and the sacrifice that they’ve made for this nation”.

We are all Gold Star Families, who have lost those we love the most in war.

Trump noted that Ghazala Khan had nothing to say. She also said she didn’t speak because she was “very nervous”.

Stone issued his tweet when Trump’s VP pick, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, tried backpedaling from his candidate’s remarks.

Not long ago he told The New York Times, doubling down on this statement since, that if Russian Federation invaded Europe he would not come to Europe’s defense if he believed that European nations did not meet his standards of defense spending. Later that day, he said former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders “made a deal with the devil” when he agreed to back Clinton.

“It doesn’t have to do anything with my religion”, she said on “Today”.

Trump’s comments displayed more than the profound ignorance we’ve all come to expect from him. He said the focus should be on “radical Islamic terrorism”, not the parents. Trump said in his initial tweet.

Both House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell issued statements over the weekend praising the couple’s son. Alexander Arredondo 12 years ago this month.

Family members of 17 service members killed in the line of duty wrote a letter to Trump calling his comments about the Khan family “repugnant” and demanding an apology.
