Donald Trump suggests United States should accept Russia’s annexation of Crimea
His claims about the episode contradict not only the facts, but also the candidate’s long-standing position on the issue.

Donald Trump mistakenly said Russian Federation has not rolled into Ukraine – while at the same time offering potential recognition of Moscow’s authority over Crimea.
“They openly said they were hired by the Trump campaign and worked for Mr. Trump”, Denman said, adding that she did not recall their names. Chuck Todd pressed. “No one, zero”, Manafort said. He said “there was no need” for Trump to comment further, saying “We want to maintain our dignity”. Russian Federation is already in Ukraine. On the sideline of the meeting, they negotiated with Denman to find a compromise but were unsuccessful.
“They softened it, I heard, but I was not involved”, Trump responded.
That amendment passed, codifying the Trump staff’s language as official GOP policy. “What I do know is that Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed admiration for Vladimir Putin”.
“The people of Crimea, from what I’ve heard, would rather be with Russian Federation than where they were”, Trump said.
Trump tweeted Monday that Putin is not going into Ukraine “if I am president”. As for Trump, she said, “Since Lithuania joined North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, we strongly believe that NATO’s Article 5 is equally valid to any and all North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members. I think what was really at the heart of this”.
Then on July 21, Trump’s chief policy adviser Sam Clovis defended the policy when asked about it at an event in Cleveland hosted by the International Republican Institute. “And he’s taken it away from the president, and you look at what he’s doing”.
On Sunday, when speaking on ABC’s This Week, he said at first that Putin was “not going into Ukraine”, before conceding that “he’s there in a certain way”.
In a discussion about United States policy toward Ukraine, Stephanopoulos asked Trump about his campaign operatives’ successful effort to block the addition of a plank to the GOP platform that would have advocated providing lethal weapons to Ukraine to help defend against the Russian-backed insurgency in its eastern Donbas region.
Mr Trump said it would be a “great thing” if the United States got along with Russian Federation and if Russian Federation would help fight IS. The Kremlin has denied its involvement in the unrest despite the reported the use of heavy Russian artillery by eastern Ukrainian rebels.
The speaker was not willing to predict Donald Trump’s effect on the relationship due to Trump’s “somewhat inconsistent and vague” stance on the matter. That would be a major shift in US foreign policy, and Trump’s campaign officials are coming out to clarify the candidate’s position.
Manafort’s main client in Ukraine was Viktor Yanukovych. Post facto referendums can not retrospectively legitimize such occupations unless conducted under global supervision. But Trump, a real estate tycoon seeking his first elected office, said, “If our country got along with Russian Federation, that would be a great thing”.
Shortly after Russia’s incursion into Crimea, the republic’s puppet government hastily put forward a referendum that was universally dismissed by western powers.
The network has always been scrutinised for being a propaganda outlet of sorts for the Putin government, which oversees its finances. “I don’t know- I- I wouldn’t know him from Adam except I see his picture, and I would know what he looks like”, Trump stated unequivocally. To be more specific, there won’t be any conflict between the two sites with him as president of the United States. They believe the greatest threats to Europe are Islamist terrorism and open borders, not Putin. Trumps vision of being “strong” when it comes to Russia isn’t standing against Russian interests; it’s standing with them.

Yanukovych had hired a lobbying firm co-founded by Paul Manafort, now Trump’s campaign manager, to improve his image in the West and avoid punishment for veering toward Russian Federation.
